As a doctrine, it’s arguable, but as a cocktail it’s just short of a religious experience.
I’m not sure where the name of this came from, but there’s little doubt that the “green fairy” (absinthe) has accelerated many a soul’s journey along its already sinful path. In this case, the delicate notes of Junmai sake and orange-blossom honey are the angel on your other shoulder. There’s a lot of good work going on in this glass!
ORIGINAL SIN
2 oz Vodka of choice
¾ oz Sake
1 tsp Honey syrup (3 honey to 1 water)
⅓ oz Absinthe
Pour the absinthe into an ice-filled Martini glass and top with water; set aside. Separately, stir the vodka, sake, and honey syrup with ice until chilled. Discard absinthe/water mixture from the Martini glass and strain the cocktail into the glass. Garnish with a star anise flower if you have any; that will amplify the residual aromas of the absinthe.
