My favorite quarantine recipes Part IX
Heart of palm, peach and Gorgonzola salad Ninth week in lockdown and even though there’s still no sign of life in any of New York’s 18,000 restaurants, my kitchen hasn’t stopped cranking them out like a hand sanitizer factory. At this point I’d like to say a little prayer: “Dear God, please bless my dishwasher and make sure it never stops running. Amen.” SUNDAY I will never dispute the fact that browning meat is one of the most crucial flavor-forming processes in any braised dish. But browning is also a time-consuming ritual that usually ends up in oil-smeared cabinets,...

Garlic Herb Naan
Hands down, these were my best naan yet! I think I had to convince myself to go with the lightly oiled pan as well as brushing butter on the naan itself before putting it in the pan – but it was SO worth it. INGREDIENTS 1/4 cup warm water 1 tablespoon honey 3/4 teaspoon active dry yeast 3/4 cup warm whole milk 1 cup full fat plain greek yogurt 4 cups all purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt 8 tablespoons (1 stick) salted butter, melted and divided in half 2-4 cloves...
Double Chocolate Banana Bread
I love this banana bread, it’s richly chocolatey and studded with walnuts. It’s also a very easy one bowl baking project, and who doesn’t love banana bread?! It’s essential the bananas you use are really ripe. Best if the skin is completely black. That said it will still work if they’re less ripe than that it just won’t be as sweet. If this is the case add an extra Tbs or two of maple syrup or honey as they’ll add the missing liquid and sweetness. This is so lovely sliced with raspberry jam, just by itself or with a little...
