Linda Shenton Matchett is a wonderful author and I have enjoyed many of her books. Murder at Madison Square Garden the book that I have most recently read. Historical Fiction and Mystery is the genre and one that I really enjoy.

Theodora "Teddy" Schafer is a Photojournalist who is under scrutiny right now due to claims of plagiarism. Plagiarism is very damaging to anyone, but for a Journalist it could be career ending. Teddy is attending the America First Rally and she has hopes of a Photo op with Charles Lindbergh. She spots someone nearby with a gun and attempting to kill Charles Lindbergh. The gun is shot, but it ends up killing another man. The gun is left in Teddy's hands and now she is being accused of Murder. Private Investigator Ric Bogart is assigned to work the case. Ric is trying to work the case without falling for sweet Teddy. His marriage ended roughly and he has sworn off women. He admits he is smitten by Teddy. He is trying believe her innocence. Will Teddy be able to prove her innocence? Will there be a LOVE connection between Teddy and Investigator Ric Bogart?

Murder at Madison Square Garden is a  "page turner" of a book. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book. The book was not too predictable, which I LOVE that aspect. I also really enjoyed the time period of the book, the early 1940's, right after WWII. Teddy is a determined woman who not only has to prove her innocence in a Murder case, but also the rumor of her Plagiarism. Ric is a sweet gentleman who is wanting to guard his heart from love, but Teddy may just be the one that brings his guard down. I LOVE how even though they had their differences during the investigation, the preserved and saw that they actually like each other. GREAT BOOK, especially for those who like History and Mystery books!

More from Linda

Dear readers:

I grew up in New Jersey and often went into New York City for school field trips and family visits. One of my favorite places to go was Madison Square Garden. I have lots of happy memories, so I wondered if I could possibly set a book there. I spent a lovely afternoon digging into the building’s past and learning about the important, historic events that took place there. When I discovered that aviator Charles Lindbergh spoke at the Garden about the controversial topic of U.S. isolationism prior to America’s entry into WWII, I knew I had the beginning of a story.

My protagonist came about during one of my shifts as a volunteer docent at the Wright Museum of WWII. While talking to one of our guests about our wartime print and broadcast journalism display, the conversation turned to the role that women played. Therese Bonney was a one of the photojournalists highlighted in the exhibit. As I studied her picture, I was struck by her determination in the set of her jaw and look in her eyes. My protagonist Theodora “Teddy” Schafer was born.

I enjoyed my trip down Memory Lane at the Garden during my research and had fun subjecting Teddy to uncomfortable situations as she tried to prove her innocence. But most of all, I hope her story honors the men and women who served in countless ways during this difficult time in history.

Enjoy Murder at Madison Square Garden.

Linda
